Ultra-Exclusive barely describes the door-policy at Mokai--more like Serena Williams was spotted waiting 45 minutes outside the trendy nightspot. A capacity of 210 people keeps this posh lounge thumping with celebrities and beautiful Miami scenesters, which should be no surprise because the reservation desk warns, “only sexy people need apply”. Inside, the dark space is accented by violet light bulbs that hang in clusters throughout the room making the sleek lounge feel more like a mad scientist’s laboratory. The minimalist decor is dotted with cross-shaped chrome tables and modern leather sofas. The door couldn’t be tighter, if you don’t have connections, try going on a less popular night like Sunday or Tuesday when lines are shorter. Doormen are known to keep a noticeable line outside to up the club’s exclusivity but being patient, well-dressed and nonchalant and you’re likely to make it past their discerning eye. Table service requires a two-bottle minimum ($600) so bring your friend Benjamin if you want to sit down with your crew.
