What is M Cafe?

This haute macrobiotic bistro gleams inside with glass deli cases, smooth wooden tables and white tile while tables beneath market umbrellas. Attracting a hodgepodge of locals ranging from young moms with babies in slings to 70-something hippies to Melrose fashionistas, this is where everyone can enjoy healthy dining courtesy of the former private chefs of Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. The menu offers macrobiotic cuisine made without refined sugar, dairy products, meat or egg. Rice bowls, salads, healthy burgers, panini, wraps and sushi highlight organic ingredients. Japanese breakfast is a lovely bento box of miso-broiled black cod, steamed pumpkin, tiny Japanese salads and hijiki. Meanwhile, the organic patisserie case is filled with eye-popping goodies like scones and muffins, chocolate mousse cake, praline nut tart and green tea truffles.

Why go to M Cafe?

Let me get this out in the open - I am not vegan... I'm not even vegetarian! I don't eat strictly macrobiotic cuisine, however, I have fallen under M Cafe's spell. A cozy, intimate atmosphere with absolutely delicious, inventive cuisine, this has to be one of my favorite lunch spots in LA. The people watching is amazing (you have quite the mixed bag of folks, ranging from hippies to celebrities to fashionistas) and the Spicy Peanut Kale and Sesame Soba Noodles are truly mouthwatering. Give it a try - you won't regret it!

When To Go To M Cafe

While the weekend crowd can get a bit overwhelming (being that there's only a limited number of places to sit), I'd say a weekday lunch would be ideal. Sit outside on the patio, if you can - there's truly nothing better than dining al fresco!

What to wear at M Cafe

Although M Cafe is in the middle of West Hollywood, you don't have to get dressed as if you were meeting Nicole Richie for a shopping date. Try a relaxed tank (like Mike & Chris' Olyn Tank in Grey Stripe) with a pair of great jeans (check out 7 for All Mankind's A Pocket Jean in Destroyed Beverly Glen) and a slouchy bag (like Jalda's Fabric Masha Bag in Black) and you'll be all set!
