Japonais is a posh sushi hotspot and favorite celebrity haunt. The glitz, glamour, impeccable décor and star-studded reputation is only trumped by the exquisite creativity and quality of their lengthy and exotic menu. One Japonais patron quips, “I have been to Japonais two times over the past year and after eating at several other sushi restaurants, I would say Japonaise has the best sushi I have ever tasted (including in Japan.)”, another said, "I can't believe the amount of plastic surgery I'm seeing here." It’s truly a place to see and be seen but the incredible décor and amazing food are a genuine reason to keep coming back.

Four dazzling decor environments set different moods; in warm weather, the subterranean riverfront terrace is an exotic escape and the place to be to sip on a Floating Orchid or Japanese Mai Tai.

The food, created in separate hot and cold kitchens by chefs Jun Ichikawa and Gene Kato, is just as stylish with artful, imaginative creations. Sushi is impeccable here, but it’s the non-suhi fare that’s most impressive ultra-creative specialties like the Seven Samurais, a dish of seven seafood tartars. The smoked duck salad features seven spices, and is tossed with mizuna, frisee, and watercress in a light honey-citrus dressing. Thinner-than-paper beef carpaccio is topped with daikon greens, fried garlic, and soy-ginger sauce. Maple-leaf-smoked duck served moo shu style is accompanied by hoisin sauce, pancakes, shallots, and mango chutney. The dishes are attractively presented on unique dishes of unusual shapes.

If you haven’t been before try looking over the lengthy menu ahead of time on the website. Reservations are an absolute must unless you want to wait an hour or more.
