From Sydney Confidential
COUNTLESS Sydney girls have fallen in love with low-rise sass & bide hipster jeans, now it's time for a new generation to fall for their funky designs.
Sarah Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, the designers behind the label who recently revealed they are both pregnant, say a line of baby clothing could be on the cards.
"We are always getting asked if we are going to do babywear now," three months' pregnant Middleton told Style Writer Jennifer Melocco. "If we do it, it will be called sass & babe."
The cute name is the idea of Clarke, who is expecting her baby in March. She says the idea for a baby line has legs, yet the range would be kept small. "It would be just for our stores," she said.
The pair are scheduled to open their first store, in Oxford St, Paddington, in June.
But first they will jet off next week to prepare for their New York Fashion Week show - their third appearance at the prestigious fashion event. And the label first made famous by its jeans and casual cool is dressing up. "We've gone for a slightly more sophisticated silhouette," Middleton said. That includes full-on long dresses for evening wear as well as lots of cropped jackets and suiting. The dressier look goes down well in the US, where the duo sell in 100 stores and plan for even bigger things ahead.
But they still have their vintage cowboy boot shod feet firmly in Sydney, with plans to set up a creche at the Rosebery studios when they come back from their maternity breaks.
"We'll be bringing them [the babies] in here and be tossing them around," Middleton said.
