Founded in 2007, Phoebe Couture by Kay Unger features young, colorful, edgy, and hip cocktail dresses. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Kay studied painting before switching to her true passion of design at Parsons/The New School for Design in New York City. After graduating, Kay quickly immersed herself into the fashion industry before eventually developing her own line. In 1995, when designing the brand Kay Unger New York, Kay wanted to create dresses for “real” women. Both classic and feminine, these dresses were inspired by women like Jackie O. and Audrey Hepburn. Finding such success with Kay Unger, Kay launched Phoebe Couture, a younger, flirtier version of her original line.

Both labels have been worn by celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, Dakota Fanning, and Vanessa Williams and featured on television programs like “Sex in the City,” and “30 Rock.” Phoebe Couture and Kay Unger cocktail dresses are sold in more than 24 countries now including U.K., Turkey, Spain, Brazil, Australia and Canada along with freestanding boutiques in China.
