Celebrity Style Blog:
EVEN A-LISTERS GET TURNED AWAY SOMETIMES

Katie Holmes' return to Los Angeles warranted much fanfare; paparazzi were around every corner of LAX on August 6 as Katie slowly made her way to her car, seeming relaxed and protectively holding her jacket closed with her left hand the entire time. Wearing ultra wide-leg denim (check out Pierce Jeans' Bleu Theresa Wide Leg Jean in Midnight Blue or Parameter's Pleated Denim Pant in Midnight for a similar look) with a black button-up and blazer and brown shades (like Nour's Kiara Sunglasses in Manner Mania), Katie also carried along a grey bag- set to be the hottest color for fall. Katie was in Saint Tropez recently with hubby Tom Cruise, and experience what many of us have gone through in our lifetime: being denied entry to a club! I find it hilarious that when one of Hollywood's most famous couples is turned away from a club in front of tons of onlookers it's newsworthy- but still, how can I not write about it? The couple tried to go into Caves Du Roi club in the exclusive Byblos Hotel, but the club was at capacity, and even when Tom's security team alerted the bouncers to his identity, they still refused him and Katie entry. A source at the club said that "the VIP area was full and the management weren't willing to move the guests already there to make room for Tom. It wouldn't have been fair." Wow, how different Saint Tropez is from Los Angeles! In LA, it doesn't matter who you are… if Tom Cruise is outside waiting, you will be shuffled around so that he can get in. Without question!

Style Tip: Bootie Shakers

In 2006 we heralded the resurrection of a sexy eighties fave, the Bootie Boot. This year the trend is staying strong if not gaining momentum with some new twists on the short shoe. Make sure to take notes before this Fall's shopping extravaganza.

Three interpretations are emerging:

  1. The Peep Toe Boot: Pretty obvious, the cropped boot has a peep toe, strange for ill-weather accoutrement if not completely impractical, but when did that ever stop us (remember Press-On Nails?) Perfect for showing off your pedi or brightly colored stockings (see last week's style tip) beneath a delectable autumnal boot.
  2. The Barely Boot: Streamlined, ultra-modern and dipping so low to the ankle it straddles the fine line between boot and high heel this ankle boot is as cheeky as they come (check out the blue-grey Louis Vuitton pictured).
  3. The Shoe Boot: Looking as a pair of penny loafers were left alone with some sassy pumps until they made babies-the Shoe Boot is hybrid of two distinct styles with a decidedly proper twist a'la Oxford pedigree. We love the refined sartorial details like laces and loafer tassels set off by one sassy spike heel.

Choose your weapon(s) wisely but remember you can't go wrong. This boot is ultra versatile, making nice with everything from ultra-skinny skinny jeans, skirts, stockings, and wide-leg trousers.

Designer of the Week:
ARISTOCRAT

Designer Bob Bak launched ARISTOCRAT Denim in the Spring of 2007 with the purpose of designing denim that is as luxurious on the inside as on the outside. Bak's chemistry degree allows him to delve further into the creative process than most designers by developing custom fabrics, washes and weaves in high-quality Italian denim mills. He works closely with the denim manufacturers, developing ARISTOCRAT's signature denims in order to ensure an impeccable shape that never loses its perfect shape.

ARISTOCRAT is truly a denim collection for the new millennium. Their crisp color palette of brilliant whites, grays and sleek raw indigoes lend a sophisticated air to a once casual phenomenon--the blue jean. Tailored for a flawless fit and inspired by decades-past fashion plates like Bianca Jagger, the blue jean is elevated to attire-status as centerpiece of the modern woman's wardrobe. Fashion-forward styles like ultra-high-waist sailor pants and super skinny skinnies (10" opening) keep fresh sartorial students coming back for more. Shop the latest from ARISTOCRAT's Fall 2007 Collection at CoutureCandy.
