Celebrity Style Blog: Reese is the New Avon Lady

In a conference held August 1, Reese Witherspoon was named Avon's first Global Ambassador, which means she will be the global face of Avon. Reese (of course) looked fresh and polished. In a classy white dress (LaROK's Joyce Dress in Cream and Laura Dahl's Edie Dress in White are mega-casual alternatives to Reese's LWD- "little white dress") with matching pumps and a single gold bangle. I think Avon made a smart move picking Reese for their new campaign. I feel she is down-to-earth enough that she would actually use Avon products! An Avon representative said that "our partnership with Reese represents a breakthrough moment for our company. This is the first time we have had celebrity representation on all three dimensions of our business, our philanthropic initiatives, our brand, and the Avon Representative, and we are incredibly excited to have someone of Reese’s talent and stature add her voice to Avon’s message to help bring it to the world." Apparently, in addition to being the face of the brand, Reese will raise awareness for pressing issues such as breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief. Good old Reese, she's always setting the best example! It also seems things might be getting steamy once again for her and rumored beau Jake Gyllenhaal, as the pair were spotted picking up to-go in Reese's black Mercedes just days ago. Love it!

Style Tip: Color Heel

As models pranced out from the Prada Autumn/Winter 2007-08 runway one could hear the sound of a niche industry getting its knickers up in a knot, or more precisely their hosiery. Yes, the hosiery industry must have been turned inside out overnight thanks to Miuccia's colorful foresight. Looking like Piet Mondrians or Ellsworth Kelly paintings, these knee-highs sported to-die for color combos like mustard yellow paired with chestnut or rust and with periwinkle. The color blocked rainbow menagerie opens up a whole new fashion arena for sartorial nerds-leg accoutrement.

You might fake your own pair with two pairs of colored leggings snipped and layered just so, but if you can't get your mittens on Prada's tights, I suggest giving the likes of Forever 21, TopShop and H&M a week or two to knock-off this incredible look. The possibilities are endless really, I can't wait to play up shoe options and pair the pop of color with a fresh handbag. Perhaps an all over monochrome look with the leggings in centerstage and a matching barrette as touchstone color.

Designer of the Week:
Maya Swimwear

"MAYA is the brainchild of third generation Argentine designer Carolina Dinardi. Her life-long fascination with design began at the age of five when her grandfather, a humble but highly-skilled Italian shoe designer, demonstrated that he could transform the silhouette of any object Carolina chose into a sketch of a beautiful shoe."

Carolina's design pedigree continued, learning from her mother a well established Argentine fashion designer. Summers spent daydreaming in her mother's design studio emboldened Carolina's aesthetic and gave her the hands-on skill set to realize her dreams.

At eighteen the young designer was inspired to design her own bikini after much frustration shopping for swimwear. She decided to make her own and perhaps sowed the seed for a future MAYA Swimwear eight years later. In the interim, she studied under accomplished Argentine fashion designers, perfecting her intuitive craft. In 1999 she fulfilled her dream of launching a high-quality swimwear brand.

The MAYA collection is reminiscent of the vibrant South American lifestyle with a vibrant color palette and flirtatious details. Styles and cuts keep women's curves in mind.

"Meaning illusion in Sanskrit, MAYA swimsuits are designed to flatter a woman's body. They are a departure from both the large American and tiny Brazilian cuts - combining practicality with South American sensuality."

Using only the highest quality, luxury materials, MAYA has earned a top-spot in the swimwear industry. Each nuance is considered--even MAYA packaging in a petite linen pouch, transforms into a low-slung pareo perfect for pool and beachside. Carefully considered details like ruffle trims, string belting and flattering rear seams all reflect the impeccable attention to detail of Carolina's design mantra. Celebrity clients include Hollywood IT girls Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, and Nicole Richie.
