Celebrity Style Blog: Imitation is the Highest Form of FlatteryBoy oh boy, does Katie Holmes sure know how to turn some heads! After debuting a very sleek and stylish new haircut while dining at restaurant Cut (how appropriate) with hubby Tom Cruise, Katie yet again displayed her new 'do while strolling down the street on June 12. She was looking chic in her black J Brand's, along with a sleeveless silk blouse over a white ¾ sleeve top (Woo's Ruthie Top is a similar piece, with some added lace detail). This new style is definitely a major change from her former shoulder-length cut, which she had been rockin' since "Dawson's Creek" back in the day. Katie's new hair makes her appear quite savvy and empowered, and it looks as though she is definitely aware of this. There is one thing though that I have to say (and I'm sure you were also thinking)... this chic new hairstyle is very Victoria Beckham-esque! Furthermore, I highly doubt that this is a coincidence. It is no secret that the girls became fast friends recently, as they have been seen shopping and even attended Paris Fashion Week together last year. Posh recently spoke out on her affinity for Katie, saying that she "really likes Katie, she's sweet and we speak on the phone about fashion and the kids." How adorable. Now that Katie transformed her formerly limp locks to the brunette version of Posh's edgy blonde bob, these two are set to conquer the world! I'm kidding, but still, I think this look definitely suits Katie. Overall though, I'd say this makeover was only marginally needed, yet definitely successfully executed! |
Style Tip: Body LanguageI remember my very first time. It was in 6th grade, Grunge was in its explosive nubile stage and if you didn't own an oversized plaid flannel shirt or Dr. Martens™, you were basically obsolete on the playground. Mom took me shopping to JC Penney (god help me) where I begged for the coolest piece of clothing EVER, a cream colored body suit that would look "so cool" under my cuffed denim Bongo™ shorts--I promise there is a point to this nostalgic tangent. Anyways I basically looked amazing the next Monday (even Wille Wulff noticed, le sigh!) What my naïve sartorial-6th-grade-self couldn't have foreseen was the awfully uncomfortable phenomenon I can only describe as "crotch snaps". Some JC Penney designer's stroke of genius-making the bodysuit more "bathroom convenient", as if any amount of inconvenience could keep me from rocking my Emily Valentine-inspired outfit! So now you understand my instantaneous aversion to bodysuits. Enter 2007 and to great relief the bodysuits are snapless! And they come in a rainbow of brilliant colors (nothing as dull as Andrea-Zuckerman-Taupe). Onto the Style Tip: So what I highly recommend is getting a black and a white bodysuit plus a brilliant neon one for an adventurous night out. They look stunning paired with most anything, but we love contrasting the skin-tight sleek suit against something that billows away from the body (see blondes pictured). Try matching your suit with a ridiculously wide-leg pant or flirty bubble skirt. High-waisted trousers look absolutely elegant as well. The best part is a bodysuit shouldn't be too pricey but will really set off more substantial pieces in your wardrobe. The black and white colors will last and last and look amazing under everything, excluding flannel. |
Designer of the Week: Possé New YorkAndrea Posse, founder of Possé, has always had a deep infatuation with accessories. Her passion for the fashion industry began as a young child when she spent her summers in Bogota, Colombia, where her aunt, designer Pilar Soentendal, ran a well-known specialty boutique called Sutendals. Her aunt was known for designing and dressing the city's social elite. Andrea adopted her aunt's passion for designing and manufacturing, and began her own career as a handbag designer by creating one-of-a-kind pieces in 2003 under the name Andrea P. She later created her signature collection under Posse, which debuted in late August 2006. Drawing inspiration from the various places she has lived - including Italy, France, Miami, and currently New York City - and using exotic fabrics and leather (python, lambskin, pony and croc, among others), Possé handbags are both deliciously dangerous and cleverly coquettish at once. Possé handbags effortlessly distinguish any outfit and are not only beautiful but multi-functional as well.
