CELEBRITY STYLE BLOG: ESCAPE OF THE WILD YETI

Gossip surrounding Mary Kate's constant battle with her weight is spreading again lately, due to those photos from the Golden Globes after-parties in which the teeny tiny millionaire looked alarmingly thin in a low cut gown. MK firmly denies any rumors that she has relapsed into her old anorexic ways, and explains that this incredible-shrinking-woman optical illusion is just that, an illusion, caused by, of all things, her hair. Mary Kate's rep says that she hasn't lost any weight, continues to stay healthy, and that the "blonde hair she has now makes her look skinny." This hair-brained excuse is quite the doozy, and while I will admit that at the Golden Globes her blonde hair appeared to be white, making MK look like a senior citizen, I don't think that is what's making her seem thin.. it's her protruding ribcage!

On January 26, Mary Kate shocked all onlookers with her fashion choice, which she does on a regular basis, but this time it was even worse than usual! In black leggings, a black longsleeve, big black shades, a gold clutch and a fur vest that looks like she was attacked by the abominable snowman, MK definitely made that woman (or is it a man?) behind her do a triple take. Is she in LA or the arctic?

DESIGNER OF THE WEEK: HUDSON JEANS

Truly American denim with the sophistication of a royal tailor's touch (hence the Union Jack emblem), Hudson Jeans has reigned over a prestigious niche of the fashion industry since 2002. Their bevy of celebrity clientele including, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Kate Bosworth, Sienna Miller, Cameron Diaz, and Charlize Theron are a testament to their ingenious fit and winning appeal. Their signature Supermodel style jean set a new standard for denim length and remains a top-seller years after its conception.

The brainchild of Hudson Jeans is President Peter Kim but the keen eye of Design Director, Lana Cretz, navigates the label's style. Lana started her design career at the American College in London. Later she worked to develop a fashion forward aesthetic at the denim powerhouse of AG jeans. Lana adds a refined touch to Hudson's foundation of classically sexy denim. Their signature pocket design has never failed to deliver an instant brand image and unique look for the customer.

This year, Hudson started with a clean slate. Their latest styles are sleek, no-fuss with a palette of raw denim washes. There's also a new take on the skinny jean-- replicating the slim styles in a stretchy knit fabric. The new material looks fresh and feels amazing. Of course their signature details are still intact, including their pointed-flap pocket design and beautiful stitch details.

STYLE TIP: WIDE LEG COMING THROUGH

If the term “skinny pants” makes you feel anything but, fret not; this spring a fearlessly chic alternative to the circulation-less skinny pant arrived just in time to exhale!

Yes, surrounded by a glowing light and able to sit through an appetizer + entrée (egads!) the wide leg pant is quickly becoming a fashionista’s favorite skinny alternative. Designers like Ralph Lauren, Christian Lacroix, Alexander McQueen and Dries Van Noten all embraced the ultra-sophisticated wide-leg cut, and for good reason, a wide leg forgives every shape and creates a polished, linear silhouette. Look for an ultra wide-leg like Lotta Stensson’s Palazzo Pant. There’s no point in going halfway with this look, it requires a full pant to build a visual foundation for the rest of the ensemble. Pair with something light and feminine like a silk blouse or darted top. Finally, cinch up with an amazing belt. Now go eat some dessert, you look famished!
