The Letarte sisters have taken their swimwear line from a rack in a Maui beachside shop to the cover of Sports Illustrated one intricately placed stitch at a time.
Lisa Letarte Cabrinha and Michele Letarte Ross are the sisters behind the label and lead the company from opposite sides of the continent. Lisa designs the line from her Maui based studio while Michele distributes the tropical creations from her East Coast offices. The two sisters are living their dream of running a family business and building a brand that is here to stay.
With the Hawaiian sunsets as her backdrop and her bohemian lifestyle as her inspiration, Lisa creates each piece that so cleverly combines eclecticism, romance and tropical luxury. She has moved the collection beyond just swimwear adding gorgeous cover-ups, caftans and dresses creating the ultimate tropical wardrobe.
Michele’s abounding energy and business savvy have helped to spread the label to every corner of the world since the company’s inception in 2000. Her dedication to the enduring quality and timeless designs keeps the loyal Letarte customers coming back as well as attracting new devotees each season.
It is only through the combination of Lisa’s designs and Michele’s retail expertise that Letarte has decorated the cover of Bergdorf Goodman’s exclusive catalog, graced the pages of Sports Illustrated, and adorned the bodies of Hollywood’s elite. You’ll see the intricately beaded suits worn by beachgoers around the world, including Elle McPherson, Heidi Klum, Carolyn Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Eva Longoria. Letarte has been featured on the pages of top fashion magazines such as ELLE, Vogue, Glamour, InStyle, Lucky and Cosmopolitan.
" I had these fairy-tale goals. I wanted to climb Mt. Everest. I wanted a dream husband, a dream child, and one of my suits on the cover of Sports Illustrated…" she pauses, I’ve got a three-year deadline on the Everest thing."
