Leaves of Grass was founded in 2002 by sister and design team duo Farha and Nagma Ansari who launched the line with a designated set of design ideas. By using natural fabrics, floral themes, and the "occasional animal print" the sisters use 14th century techniques to make hand-embroidered tunics and dresses that are adorned with bright vintage-inspired patterns.
