Juicy Couture
In this week's Hib Report, it's all so very Terry — terry cloth, that is. The fashionable fabric can be found just about everywhere, as The Early Show's Laurie Hibberd can attest to.
The plush soft fabric most often associated with towels, and perhaps robes, has now emerged as a fabric of choice for many designers. Following the widely popular terry outfits by Juicy Couture, the terry trend is infiltrating products from underwear to furnishings.
Aside from casual comfort, the terry cloth phenomena may be attributable to the continuing demand for athletic-like styles, along with the extended life of the retro '70s looks.
When shopping for terry cloth products, a simple visual and touch test can give clues to the quality of the fabric. According to George Ganiaris, Chairperson from the Textile, Development and Marketing Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, the determining characteristics to terry cloth's quality include its weight, stitch density and pile height. Ganiaris stresses it's often difficult for the average consumer to tell the difference in terry cloth.
