BIOGRAPHY:

The classic dream of ‘young girl comes to Hollywood and quickly makes her mark’ has actually held quite true for Kristen Johnson. It would be easy to note her blue eyed, blond lankiness and attribute her success to those things but that’s where the similarities with theaverage ‘pretty’ girl story end.

Born in San Diego, Johnson was the sort of little girl who stood out among the other kids. When they all wanted to play one game, she was inventing her own. When they all had the same haircuts and dresses, she was piping up for a pageboy and vintage flourishes.

It’s unusual to find children with fully defined vision but it’s more rare for them to translate that independence into adult life. But Johnson did just that.

Johnson kept her eye on the prize; the prize being her own clothing line and in 2004 she launched her ‘Johnson Clothing’ label. A focused line, it has up to now trained its perfection on shorts…Shorts- as American in theory as you can get, but these are no cookie-cutter clingy synthetics or clumsy Bermudas. She came up with a feminine, well-suited marriage of old and new. One of a kind collectables.

After years of cutting and sewing men’s thriftstore pants to conform to female legs, getting to know substantial suit fabrics, estimating the weight and impact of details such as buttons and studying the tailoring of both U.S. and European design history, 28-year old Kristen Johnson has unveiled the quintessential hybrid of form and function.
