Strokes and Plugs

A little bit of SLO in the Grammy bag

The performers who took home trophies at the Grammys weren't the only winners this year. One local artisan found out she had won a full four weeks before the show even aired.

Cari Streeter, a SLO-based jewelry designer, had one of her pieces, the Water Necklace, chosen as one of 37 items to be placed in the BMG Music grab bag given to 250 Grammy nominees and celebrities including performers like Christina Aguilera, Sara McLachlan, Pink, and TLC.

Streeter said a few weeks back she sent the necklace to Krupp Kommunications, the firm that's in charge of gift bags, which showed it to a committee for BMG music.

BMG liked it and wanted to include it in their gift bag. They called Streeter back in three hours to tell her she was in.

According to Streeter's web site, jewelrybycari.com, the necklace is made up of a handmade silver ring embracing a rare Peruvian opal, which encircles three graceful silver cords. It is finished with a substantial toggle clasp.

And no two opals are identical, making every necklace a one-of-a-kind piece. The necklace will be displayed on silk eye pillows (handmade by Sharon White Sewing of Santa Maria) that were embroidered (by Miracle Embroidery) with her logo and filled with aromatic lavender flowers and flax seeds.

Streeter started her business about a year ago and promotes her jewelry by showing it at private jewelry parties in people's homes. Read more...
