Earl Jean designer Suzanne Costas is becoming the darling of the denim world. As a teen, Suzanne began altering her clothing in search of the perfect fit. She soon discovered a winning combination for jeans. "A good sized pocket, a low rise, and then I would girl-ify the leg by slimming it down," she explains.

Ironically, when her precious tailor-made jeans were stolen out of a laundromat, Suzanne realized she was on to something. Teaming up with boyfriend Ben, the label Earl Jean was born. With no formal background in design, Suzanne went through endless fittings with a pattern-maker until they had created the perfect pair.

Luckily, she had an important fabric resource at her disposal. "I use the Cotton Incorporated Library all the time. It's like a beginner's dream. I pretty much do my whole line out of cotton - it always gives this authentic and timeless feel to the clothes." Read More…
