CoutureCast: Hi and welcome to Couture Candy's Podcast. We are here today with a very exciting upcoming designer Mary Rambin who designs Moe Bags.

Her bag was just seen by Jessica Biel in "US" weekly and we'd like to welcome her.

Hi!

Mary Rambin: Hello!

CC: How are you?

Mary: Good thank you, how are you?

CC: Good. OK, we just have a few questions for you.

First of all we have read that your vision of the girl that carries your purses is "A girl who understands the secrets of being beautiful and making it effortless."

Can you elaborate on this vision and also can you also tell us what click stands for?

Mary: Sure, the whole theme of my company is effortless style meaning that just because you're dressing fashionable doesn't mean that what you're wearing doesn't have a purpose or doesn't have to be comfortable.

The click bag stands for cell phone, lip-gloss, ID, cash, and keys. Meaning it's all of your essentials that you need to take out at night. The design of the bag is very unique, that when you put one strap to the other it closes the bag and it hangs off of your wrist without any effort.

You don't have to worry about it throughout the night while you're dancing; you're holding your martini. It's not like one of those wristlettes that has a long strap and it might fall off. This one stays right in place and accents just about any outfit with the six or seven different colors that I have every season.

CC: Yeah, they're great for dancing. We both have them.

[laughter]

CC: Yeah we like to tell everyone.

Mary: On the dance floor.

CC: Yeah it's definitely an effortlessly chic item.

Mary: Well, glad to know I met that goal.

CC: You did it.

You definitely did that.

So what is your fashion background? We read that you started as a model.

Mary: I did, I started as a model in Houston and I soon learned that I would rather be behind the scenes than in front of the camera and so I started studying photography, fashion photography, makeup, and all different kind of things.

I've also grew up in a very fashion conscience family. So I guess shopping as a hobby kind of turned into a career kind of just in inherent sense of style. I haven't had any necessarily formal training, but, once you're out and about and you're thinking "Oh! I'd really like to have something like this, this and this." and it's cute, you know. You put it down on paper and make it happen.

CC: Pretty neat. I have another quote for you. We're interested in this one.

It says, "Moe is her means of providing American women with the same independence by rethinking trends and considering convenience." And this is regarding your deliberated style you said you found in London. Can you tell us more about this?

Mary: Yes, girls in London, you know, go out at night even during the daytime; everybody is wearing something different and it doesn't matter really, I mean, obviously trends matter, but, they really wear what they want to wear and it's anything.

You can go to a party and people will be t-shirts and jeans to a cocktail dress, but, it's always got their own individual flair and their own individual style and that's kind of what I wanted to do with these bags.

I made six unique bags even though they're the same style so that it can go with so many different peoples sense of style and what they wanted to wear and what they feel comfortable wearing and also something, you know, considering your first point that it's; you've got two completely different outfits you can get one silver bag and one gold one and kind of throw them around with different outfits.

So I think what I meant by that quote was that I hope that style in America kind of becomes more individual then it is trendy. And, you know niche.

CC: Yeah. And, but, like store bought Abercrombie, uniform.

Mary: Store bought, Abercrombie chicks in tight look where everybody is a cookie-cutter with the same style.

CC: Yeah and just.

Mary: Speak for yourself and really do what you feel comfortable in not just because everybody else is wearing it.

CC: That perfectly leads into my next question. Do you think that this eclectic style that's popular in London is finally beginning to hit the States? Like we have the West Coast H & M that just opened in San Francisco and a Top Shop that just moved into New York. Pretty much when I went to London I thought like it was the most important store as far as eclectic stuff affordable style and also another part of that. Do you think that there is a desire for this eclectism in Los Angeles?

Mary: I do more and more everyday I'm finding that in Los Angeles people are really stepping out and doing their own thing. And stores like H & M and Top Shop really help with that because it is more affordable and it's also got designers that that you don't see everyday. And Top Shop has a great way of incorporating six or seven trends in one store and making it completely different. They've got a vintage line, kind of Urban Outfitters but on a completely different level.

CC: A better quality and it's more individual definitely.

Mary: Yes, it absolutely is I'm finding more and more in Los Angeles that people really are, kind of, going out on their own whereas in New York I feel, I guess that people are still in the same thinking.

CC: Really?

Mary: It's all about black and it's a little more conservative, but, I guess when it's twenty degrees and snowing up there you don't have much choice.

CC: Yeah.

CC: It's kind of hard to tell.

CC: They are confined by the weather and we're not. Which is why everyone wants to evoke California style.

Mary: That's very true.

CC: Cool. So speaking of California style; what other celebrities are, have been seen carrying your bag?

Mary: Well, I'd said Jessica Biel was just recently in "US" magazine and in "Life and Style". This week Maria Mendoza was spotted out at a truck show with the Ali bag.

And Jessica Alba has the whole collection. Brittany Murphy, I'm shipping her out the whole spring collection today. Other stars are Courtney Cox, Alexa Hayden, my sister from "All My Children" and Maria my favorite celebrity.

CC: Oh my gosh, I used to watch that one.

Mary: The list is growing everyday. So I'm very fortunate to have a lot of celebrity support behind the bag.

CC: Well that's neat. We always like to find designers that are trying to push L.A. California style more of an individualistic way to dress.

Mary: That's my goal and for Fall I'll be coming out with more new hobos and totes that will be something like never seen before.

CC: Awesome! Very cool! Are you ever, would you think of about doing anything besides bags? Or do you kind of want to stick to bags? Like any other clothing?

Mary: I feel that bags are an area that really needs attention in Los Angeles, especially, with the huge trends that are going on, like the.

Pianegonda and the spy bags and they are so out of reach for so many people and so I really want to focus on making fun and trendy bags with a purpose. That are affordable for people in Los Angeles, so it will be fun to add to your everyday wear, but, actually serve a function.

The hobo bag is going to have a structure inside so that you can put your files or your head shots or your script or whatever, your FedEx in your purse without it getting crumpled and it's also going to have the little pockets like every other bag has, but, I feel the hard structure within this very soft slouchy bag is going to add a new dimension to that.

CC: That's a really good idea. That's very well we look forward to seeing your career develop and being on Couture Candy.

Mary: Thank you very much. I enjoyed being on Couture Candy.

[laughter]

CC: Thanks so much.

Mary: OK have a good day.

CC: You too, bye bye.
