Wherever she goes she makes a statement, and Jessica Simpson did just that while out to dinner at Katsuya in this colorful printed maxi dress in Los Angeles on April 30. Wearing a strapless floor length dress that reminds me more of kids bed sheets than a dinner dress, Jess stuck with the jungle theme and paired leopard print wedges with her frock (if you love the maxi look, try Tricia Fix's Julie Long Dress in Snake or try the aquatic themed Nassau Long Dress in Border). If she'd kept it simple with plain wooden heels or embellished sandals (like Matiko's Pom Wedge in Brown) I might have let this one slide, but the dress has so much going on by itself I have no idea what possessed her to wear these shoes. The cropped True Religion denim jacket doesn't really match the bag or the shoes, but I do like the lightened style. It seems like denim jackets are everywhere lately - are any of you pulling yours out of the closet? Jessica accessorized her 'fit with gold leaf earrings (similar to Robyn Rhodes' Kaylee Earrings in Gold) and a studded black handbag, slicking her hair back into a smooth ponytail while she enjoyed her meal. To me it just seems like everything going on here is a mess - am I being overly harsh or do you think she deserves it for her accessory choices (or the dress itself)? On the way out of the restaurant, Jess was spotted saying hello to fellow songstress Rihanna, who was dining inside with Jay-Z. Guess RiRi is keeping him entertained while Beyonce is on tour? For all of you Simpson fans, Jess has an in depth interview in the June Vanity Fair issue and opened up to the mag about the recent criticism she's overcome... and of course dished a little about life with Romo. She appears in a white wrap dress on the cover, under the headline "You call this fat?" You'd think her publicist could have convinced the mag to choose a more flattering title now that she's put all that body trash talking behind her, but Jess spoke out about the media's razor sharp criticism in her interview: “When it comes to media criticism, that’s just something I have had to train myself—literally train myself—to ignore…. I mean, the way people make it sound, I should have never been singing in the first place…. I can’t imagine saying some of the things people have said about me about anybody else.” When it comes to dealing with negative publicity, I think Christina Aguilera said it best: words can't bring you down, Jess!
