Newton made her film debut in Flirting (1991). She gained international recognition in the Merchant Ivory production of Jefferson in Paris as Sally Hemings, which led to her being cast in Jonathan Demme's Beloved (1998), in which she played the title character. She played the female lead Nyah Hall in the film Mission: Impossible II. When this film went over schedule, she had to pull out of the film Charlie's Angels[citation needed], and her character ultimately went to Lucy Liu. She reprised the role once more for the series finale in 2009. In 2004 also appeared in The Chronicles of Riddick and Crash. In the latter, she played a wealthy black woman who, along with her husband, finds herself the target of a racist policeman (played by Matt Dillon). THANDIE'S PAINFUL ADMISSION

Thandie Newton seen on Mar 21 2013 in New York, NY. Thandie Newton was all smiles as she showed up to the premiere of her new series "Rogue" in NYC, which was held at the Tribeca Grand Screening Room on March 21. For her premiere outfit, Thandie sported a vintage beaded Swee Lo dress circa 1980's from The Gathering Goddess along with a black Zac Posen jacket and a cool pair of black and silver ombre Jimmy Choo heels. A Solange Azagury-Partridge ring and drop earrings (similar to Hari Jewels' dazzling Aquamarine and Diamond Earrings), along with a metallic silver clutch, completed TN's outfit. For three printed dresses here on CoutureCandy that are visually similar, check out Veronica M's Short Dress in Reef, Jack by BB Dakota's Andre in Tangerine, and Voom by Joy Han's Ruby Shift Dress in Red. Lavender lids and a bold red lip provided the beauty details for Thandie's ensemble - love it or lose it, readers? Thandie has openly shared her struggle with bulimia when she was 14 with the world, saying back in 2012 that she "had terrible bulimia for about a year. I ate nothing but cottage cheese. Iíve still got the scars on my knuckles from where I put my fingers down my throat." However, Thandie recently divulged how the disease reared its ugly head when she was in her early 20's, due to the fact that she was involved with an older man. Thandie hopes to help others by her painful admission, saying: "I still feel the need to communicate to other young women what happened to me. I really do believe that negative experiences can very often be the absolute revelation in your life. Sometimes an abusive relationship can lead you to unwrap your pain because you are left so low you have to look into the core of who you are, and that will lead back to the cause of your issues and help you change." What are your thoughts on Thandie's words of wisdom, everyone?

'MARIGOLD' MARVELOUS

Thandie Newton seen on Feb 07 2012 in London, England. The always-gorgeous Thandie Newton posed on the red carpet for the premiere of the film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was held in London at the Curzon Mayfair on February 7. Outfit wise, Thandie opted for a chic Stella McCartney Resort 2012 one sleeve dress paired with nude heels and Solange Azagury-Partridge jewelry. To emulate Thandie's bold and colorful ensemble, check out one of Boulee's bright dresses here on CoutureCandy; the super-similar Madison Dress in Blue is cute, or if you're looking to turn up the sex-appeal, try the Ciara Long Sleeve Dress in Blue. From there, add a pretty drop earring (like Calico Juno Designs' Princess 104 Earring in Gold) and a statement ring (Satya Jewelry's From the Depths Ring in Onyx) and you'll be all set. Do you like this outfit on Thandie, everyone? I think the color is amazing against her skin, I'm just not sure if there's a fit issue with the top of the dress. Either way, there's no denying how beautiful she is! In fact, TN recently shared a few of her makeup tricks recently. She divulged that "Olay does a great tinted moisturiser that I add a little turmeric to, making it more yellow depending on my skin tone and the season. Thatís a great trick for all women who find that foundations are too ashy or too pink for their skins. And itís anti-inflammatory. Itís my secret weapon." A little tumeric? Who knew!

THANDIE'S THEATRE DEBUT

Thandie Newton seen on Oct 24 2011 in London, England. Thandie Newton looked poised and beautiful as she posed at the press after party for her play "Death and the Maiden" in London on October 24, in an outfit that was definitely a risk. Thandie decided to mix prints and textures with her Giles Spring 2012 dress, which featured a metallic skirt, red paneling along the waist, a sweetheart silk top and leopard print underlay. Wow! What are your thoughts on a dress with this much going on? If you like the mix-and-match look, try Ani Apparel's Studded Waistband Dress in White/Black, which emulates the separates look of Thandie's Giles dress, or Twinkle by Wenlan's Wrapped and Ready Dress in Cream/Black, which mimics the underlay effect. If you like the idea of adding a panel of contrasting color to a dress, there's no better way to do so than with a belt. Jacqueline Rose's Two Tone Belt in Black is the perfect option. From there, TN wore a turquoise pair of Nicholas Kirkwood heels, and layered a few pieces from Solange Azagury-Partridge's jewelry collection. Get the look with Anna Beck's Timor Skinny Bangles in Silver. Thoughts, everyone? Do you think that Thandie carries this risky look? The British actress recently spoke out to BBC News about her first stage role, in Ariel Dorfman's claustrophobic moral thriller, and said: "I was potentially biting off more than I could chew. In some ways this was above my expectations of where I could start in theatre, but it came along and I wasn't going to say no. I had a great feeling of responsibility that I was giving voice to the voiceless. The play is not necessarily set in Chile, it could be in any country after a dictatorship. It now has a much broader perspective. I've been focusing a lot of my work privately in Congo, where sexual violence against women is epidemic. Rape and torture is a weapon of war and one of the things that is so chronic and difficult for these people is that they are not given a voice, that justice is never done." It's quite interesting to hear Thandie's take on this tough role!

A VULNERABLE ROLE

Thandie Newton seen on Nov 02 2010 in Hollywood, CA. The lovely Thandie Newton makes an appearance at a charity event featuring a special Lionsgate screening of For Colored Girls in Los Angeles on November 1. Looking classy as ever, T arrived in a sheer, sparkly Louis Vuitton top (love Karen Zambos' Abba Sweatshirt in Grey) paired with tailored Marni shorts (check out the new shape of Gold Hawk's Relaxed Paperbag Short in Kohl Black) and chic Sergio Rossi patent pumps (add a little edge with Rock & Republic's Alayna Chain Pump in Pewter). Thandie kept her accessories very simple, opting for a single skinny bracelet (add a personal touch with Christie Martin's custom Thin Bangle Bracelet in Silver). What do you think of her polished look, does it suit her? I think she gives the bra baring look a touch of class that is so difficult to pull off, so this one is a winner for me. The following evening, Thandie made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but unlike her prior slip of the tongue on The View she was careful to keep the conversation strictly on her new film! In her interview she dished on how difficult it was to play a promiscuous bartender: ďI felt like I was possessed Ö I felt uncomfortable exploring this sexually-depraved, mean, negative energy. I really felt very vulnerable because itís so not who I am, at all.Ē Are you intrigued to check out Thandie's out of body performance?

THANDIE'S SLIP OF THE TONGUE

Thandie Newton seen on Oct 25 2010 in New York, NY. Busy on a promotional tour for her new movie For Colored Girls, British actress Thandie Newton appeared Tim Palenís Living Portraits opening night reception at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in NYC with her castmates on October 24, and the following night she attended the premiere of the film at the Ziegfeld Theatre. For her first ensemble, Thandie wore a bright green dress (like Boulee's Dolores Tube Dress in Turquoise) under a vintage leopard print coat (try a modern trench like Walter's Khaki Flocked Trench in Multi), and accessorized with embellished heels and a layered necklace (get the look with one of Amrita Singh's stunners, like the Cheya Necklace in Gold or the Wisteria Hampton Necklace in Evergreen). For the film's actual premiere, TN opted for a minimal yet chic Calvin Klein Collection maxi dress (get a similar frock with Tt Collection's Christophe Double Layer Gown in Black/Taupe) with matching heels and a few gold bangles (like Alex and Ani's Set of 7 Signature Expandable Wire Bangles in Gold). I'm leaving it up to you, readers - which was Thandie's better look? As I'm sure you've heard, Mariah Carey finally confirmed that she's preggers, and she might have Thandie to thank for making the statement! You see, Thandie appeared on "The View" to discuss the film, and the topic turned to why she stepped in to replace Mariah. Thandie said, "I think she is pregnant." Once Thandie realized that she might have revealed too much, she added: "Or something major is going on in her life, so I carried the baton for her. I only had two days to make a decision to play it." Oops!

CELEBRATORY SHOPPING SPREE

Thandie Newton seen on Aug 18 2010 in London, UK. Keeping things elegant as always, Thandie Newton was spotted browsing a few boutiques in the Notting Hill borough of London on August 18. Not letting the occasional shower get her down, TN paired her lightweight summer trench (can't go wrong with Suzabelle's Nicolet Trench Coat in Classic Taupe) with leather wedge sandals (like Farylrobin's Imogen in Brown) and faded grey skinnies (try Joe's Jeans' booty flattering Honey Straight Leg in Madison), tucking in a white scoop tee fastened with a clasp belt. Thandie brightened things up with a cherry red tote (my current obsession is CC Skye's Love82 in Lamb Red), keeping her hair out of her face in a sleek ponytail. What do you think of her casual shopping ensemble, do you like the way she's mixing neutrals with pop accessories? It seems to me Thandie is much better known for her impeccable red carpet style than for her acting, which is why it's so exciting that her new film starring Hayden Christensen Vanishing on 7th Street will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival. Maybe her celebratory shopping spree gave her a few ideas on which direction her style will take at the event? Can't wait to see what she turns up in!

MADLY IN LOVE

Thandie Newton seen on Dec 10 2009 in London, England. The beautiful Thandie Newton made an appearance at a champagne event at a jewelry store named Tach in London, England back on December 10, which was hosted by Tach's owner, Tatiana Anatoly, as well as fashion guru Lulu Kennedy. Newton seemed a bit demure as she posed for photos with her husband Ol Parker, however there's no debating how chic she looked. For her ensemble, Thandie started with a flirty floral blouse (check out Ella Moss' Ambrosia Flaresleeve Top in White) under a dainty, cropped blazer (like Zoa's Classic Cropped Blazer in Black) and paired with slouchy black trousers with a paperbag waist (try Alice + Olivia's Arthur Pant in Black) and black cutout heels. For the finishing touch of her look, TN toted a black Chanel bag with chain strap (for a more affordable alternative, take a look at Carla Mancini's Flap Over Bag with Chain Strap in Black). What are your thoughts about Thandie's look here, readers? Are you as enamored with her as I am? While it's nice to see Thandie stepping out at more events, it seems like she likes to keep her private life just that - private. However, she did speak out to UK's InStyle about how she met her husband, Ol, saying "He wrote a screenplay called In Your Dreams that I filmed in 1997. Itís very unusual to have writers around on set because directors donít want them there. But they love having Ol around. He was on set every day and I fell madly in love with him." How romantic!

A SIGHT IN BLACK AND WHITE

Thandie Newton seen on Nov 03 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. The perpetually gorgeous Thandie Newton was spotted at the Los Angeles premiere of the new film "2012" on November 3, looking absolutely stunning in a black and white floral painted Prabal Gurung dress. If the style of the dress looks familiar, Leighton Meester wore one of Gurung's stunners just one day earlier. For a similar look to Thandie's, try a classic strapless dress like Single's Strapless Pleat Dress in Black or Shumaq's Emily Strapless Dress in Beige, paired with an eye-catching oversized cocktail ring (check out either Megan Greene's Ada III Ring in Thistle or Michele Michel Jewelry's Adjustable Hammered Dome Ring in Silver). TN completed her look with a pair of black Brian Atwood heels and a sleek, shiny bob. What are your thoughts, readers - are you as in love with her look here as I am? Simply stunning. For those of you who admire Newton's svelte frame, she has opened up about her fitness regime. She says, "Iím a Jivamukti yoga freak Ė itís food for my soul. When Iím not working, Iíll drop Rip off at school and Nico at nursery, then I go to yoga. I also have an amazing personal trainer who I see whenever I can. His name is Liston Wingate-Denys." For those of you not familiar, Jivamukti yoga involves physically stimulating routines, along with meditation, Sanskrit chanting, Yogic philosophical teachings and deep relaxation. How intense! Anyone out there a fan of this type of yoga? Let me know!

Thandie Newton seen on Jul 09 2009 in London, England. The lovely Thandie Newton made an appearance at The Summer Party held at Londonís Serpentine Gallery on July 9, rocking a beautifully colorful look from Matthew Williamson Resort 2010 Collection. For a similar look to Thandie's gorgeous silk watercolor dress, check out Single's selection printed silk dresses (like the Low V-Neck Dress with Chain Belt in Fuchsia Multi or the V-Neck Dress with Tie in Aqua / Black), Prairie New York's Ashley Dress in Picket Fence, which has a similar silhouette to Thandie's MW choice, or Black Halo's luxurious Racer Back Dress with Pockets in Jade. Newton then accessorized her look with a fashion-forward pair of nude Matthew Williamson heels, a studded belt (like Motif 56's Piper Belt in Natural) and an embellished blue silk clutch. What do you think of Thandie's look here - does she rock it or not? Personally, I always think she looks classy and gorgeous, especially so in this beautiful dress which really suits her skin tone. Her sleek hair with the oh-so-playful side part finishes off her look. Thandie attended the art soiree with director hubby Ol Parker, in addition to other celebs like Mario Testino, singer Natalie Imbruglia, Pharrell Williams, and UK singing sensation Will Young. Thandie has pretty much always kept it classy on the carpet, as two years ago today she was quoted as saying, "Celebrity these days is just about wearing something plunging on the red carpet. I think Liz Hurley wearing that Versace dress started it all." Do you agree with her sentiments about the current state of celebrity (or at least the state of celebrity in 2007?). And have you seen Thandie wearing anything "plunging" that would make her statement contradictory? Weigh in readers!
