PRINCESS PINK

Sheís not usually one for color, but Natalie Portman showed up in a vividly pink gown on the red carpet of the 81st Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles on February 22, standing out against all the white dresses that were so popular this year. I adore the candy colored hue and intricately jeweled bodice of this gorgeous Rodarte frock, but Iím not sure if the shade is a good pick for Natalieís characteristically plain style. Itís a little too princess, a little too feminine compared to her usual taste. It doesnít help that the color is strikingly similar to Alicia Keysí Armani Prive gown Ė sort of kills the originality of the bubblegum shade, no? For pink lovers out there, check out CoutureCandyís fun frocks for spring, like Tricia Fixís Noriko Long Dress in Fuchsia Flower or Betsey Johnsonís Tiered Dress in Blush. Nat also arrived decked out in diamond earrings, rings and a stunning cuff bracelet (try Jessica Elliotís Open Clover Cuff in Sterling Silver), and carried a dark rounded clutch (switch it up and add some color to your Ďfit with Carla Manciniís Small Clutch in Fuchsia). I have to give a nod to Natís makeup artist for the dramatic eyes and defined cheekbones Ė again, not something she usually does and itís refreshing to see her so dressed up. It is the Oscars, afterall! The only thing I donít understand: the black nail polish. Why are so many actresses cutting their nails short and painting them black these days? Such an anti-feminine color with such a girly dress confuses me. Am I the only one? During the ceremony, Nat took the stage to present an award with Ben Stiller, portraying Joaquin Phoenix with a furry beard and dark shades. Kudos to Nat for keeping a straight face! Before the show was over, Natalie ruffled a few feathers when she left the ceremony early to make an appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Sunset Tower Hotel, mingling with celebs including Daniel Craig, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer. The early exit could mean one of two things: the Vanity Fair party is just that cool, or the Oscars were just a little boring this year. What did you think of the show?

Very regal! Hot!guest on Feb 27 2009 @ 09:14 PM

Short nails are so easy to deal with. I love them! I don't wear any nail polish other than the occasional black as it reminds me of being a teenager. It is both classy and goth. Maybe not the best choice for the eventguest on Feb 27 2009 @ 09:16 PM

Very pretty.guest on Feb 28 2009 @ 06:17 AM

Nat looks gorgeous! I dont like black polish either. As for the pink shade of the dress, see how it changes under different lighting, even in the picture you're showing? Still... it's just a little TOO pink. A lavender or periwinkle and fewer sequins would have been perfect.guest on Feb 28 2009 @ 08:52 AM

I LOVE THIS DRESSguest on Feb 28 2009 @ 11:52 AM

I'm sorry. The dress looks nice from the side but she seems to have 5 small boobs in the front. The front profile is just terrible.guest on Mar 01 2009 @ 01:01 AM

I think she looks lovely, but I'm only so-so on the dress. I don't really like the color on her. I think more of a jewel tone would have been nicer. The fit is great though. She's so petite.guest on Mar 01 2009 @ 05:55 PM

It's really pretty, but I think it looks like a prom dress...guest on Mar 04 2009 @ 04:43 PM
