Natasha Bedingfield

Natasha Bedingfield (born 26 November 1981) is an English singer and songwriter who had her first hit record in the UK during 2004 with her debut album entitled "Unwritten". The title track of the album "Unwritten" also reached number one in the US, becoming the most played pop song of 2006. It is also currently the theme tune of the hit MTV reality show "The Hills". She originally debuted in the 1990s as a member of the Christian dance/electronic group The DNA Algorithm with her siblings Daniel Bedingfield and Nikola Rachelle. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Bedingfield recorded rock and gospel songs for the Hillsong London Church. She recorded her first album Unwritten in 2004. The album contained primarily uptempo pop songs and was influenced by R&B music; it enjoyed international success with over 2.5 million sold worldwide. In 2007, she received a Grammy Award nomination for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" for the song "Unwritten". Bedingfield's second album N.B. (2007) yielded the singles "I Wanna Have Your Babies", "Soulmate" and "Say It Again". Bedingfield has achieved 5 top ten singles in the United Kingdom to date and as of January 2008, she has sold over 7 million records worldwide. Bedingfield has promoted humanitarian causes throughout the world, and is noted for her work with children in the "Stop the Traffik" campaign through her mother's charity, Global Angels. While she's not politically outspoken in the US, her song "Unwritten" has been used by Barack Obama on the campaign trail in '08

AH, THE PANT SUIT

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Nov 23 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. In a blinding white satin suit, Natasha Bedingfield made a startling entrance on the red carpet on the 2008 American Music Awards on Nov 23 in Los Angeles. Making a stab at the female suit trend, I’m so jolted by the clown-like make-up, ill fitting suit, pale cleavage and red strappy heels that I’m not quite sure what to make of this. One thing is certain: it’s officially time to hire a stylist for red carpet appearances! If you like the professional vibe, try a more feminine approach like Laura Dahl’s Marshall Cropped Jacket in White with a tucked in tank and Shumaq’s Linen Pencil Skirt in White, and add a statement-making necklace like Rock Paper Scissors’ Peacock Necklace in Gold. Nat’s oversized, too short pendant necklace throws me off just as much as the rest of the ‘fit, but I’m wondering if she was trying to match the red lips and heels with the crimson frock she wore for her performance later in the night. It’s the only explanation I can think of! Natasha has been keeping herself busy with the “New Kids on the Block” tour, but while traveling on the bus Nat has made it a priority to visit as many schools as possible to inspire the kids to express themselves through music. Lucky kids in a few cities got to come on board the Lennon bus, fully equipped with a recording studio and writing space for Natasha. On a recent trip back to the UK, Nat raved to a British mag about her passion for penmanship: “Song writing is what I love doing the most out of anything I do and it’s very creative and I love just sitting in a room and just starting to jam. I just start humming and the songs just end up coming out!” If “Unwritten” was just the beginning, I can’t wait to see what this budding songstress has in store for us in the future!

TAKE AWAY THE SCISSORS

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Oct 08 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. There is something about Natasha Bedingfield’s revamped choppy blonde ‘do that I can’t quite wrap my mind around. Maybe it’s that it’s cropped shorter on one side than the other, maybe it’s because she likes to spike it up for events, it just doesn’t quite work for me. The bleached blonde hue and the choppy cut conjures up an image of Blondie in the 80’s after a run in with Edward Scissorhands – it’s a little frightening! Do any of you favor the rocker look? Nat certainly did play the part as she rocked the mic on the “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on Oct 8 in Los Angeles, belting out her latest single in a slinky black dress (for similar satiny looks, check out Miguelina’s Naomi Dress in Black or Lotta Stensson’s Satin Shirt Dress in Black) piled high with gold chains (see Marnie Rock’s versatile 14K Gold Filled Double Chain Necklace in Gold or Robyn Rhodes’ two toned Grace Necklace in Gold) and capstoned with fierce gladiator spike heels. I don’t know about the hair but that is one sexy ‘fit! Nat is currently on tour with the old New Kids on the Block, traveling the country from LA to NY and everywhere in between. While she is bummed to be separated from her new fiancé and her mama, Natasha wrote on her blog how happy she is about her mom’s daring charity sky dive from Mt. Everest, “Thank you to all who have donated to her cause. I know she is very excited about aiming to make a world record in such a dramatic way and she said the only way she has courage to do it is that the money raised from it is going to help so many kids.” There is definitely much more to this blonde songstress than meets the eye!

FLASHY FASHIONISTA

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Sep 09 2008 in New York, NY. In the midst of the pending presidential election, economic woes and retail panic that has consumed the US for the past two months, somehow I missed Natasha Bedingfield making an out of character appearance at Max Azria’s Spring 2009 show at New York Fashion Week on Sept 9. At first glance I thought the mod color block dress was a nice pick compared to Nat’s usual taste, but the contrast banded sleeves and the razor sharp hem above the knee do nothing but cut off her appendages… which, let’s face it, are a bit chubby cherub-esque. If you like the contrasting look, try a more flattering cut like Black Halo’s Color Block Detail Bodice Dress in Grey or take it a step further with Tricia Fix’s Siva Cocktail Dress in Snake. Deciding to add the classy black patent pumps was a good choice, but the hot pink nail polish and funky graphic clutch? A bit of a clash, not to mention the short heart necklace reminiscent of a little girl’s locket. A solid colored clutch like Posse New York’s Natalie Clutch in Fuchsia and a more elegant heart necklace like Michele Michel’s Smoked Quartz Necklace with Beads and Heart in Smoke would have pulled the look together. I’m a little confused by what she was trying to achieve here, but hey, at least she has that gorgeous engagement ring to flash to the press! If you haven’t heard about it, Natasha shared her exciting news with fans on her blog, “I miss my fiancé...oh yeah by the way if you didn't know already I got engaged!!!!! All my friends have been finding out about my news from pictures of me and my sparkly ring on the Calvin Klein red carpet. You may ask 'Why do I miss Matt right now?' Well, he is presently hiking his way to the Everest base camp with my mum who is going to be sky diving really soon… I am really glad he is out there with her to make sure she is safe and also to film it so we all get to view the journey later.” Oh yes, the infamous charity sky-diving challenge! Natasha’s mom was set to break a world record for highest jump, but given her crippling fear of heights and the lack of press about the jump going through, I have to wonder – where’s that video??

WEDDING BELLS

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Sep 07 2008 in New York, NY. Natasha Bedingfield couldn’t help but smile while attending Calvin Klein’s 40th Anniversary bash in NYC on Sept 7 – most likely because her beau of two years popped the question earlier in the day! Nat looked radiant in a demure ivory dress (similar to Suzabelle’s Krona Dress in Khaki/White) with ivory peep-toe pumps at the event, carrying a sleek envelope clutch (like Posse New York’s Sama Clutch in White Pearl) and showing off her newly acquired engagement ring. Not the most exciting ‘fit, but hey, it is clean and crisp Calvin Klein, and her matching 5 karat smile definitely picks up her look. After her latest announcement, I have to assume that when Nat wrote “I Wanna Have Your Babies,” she must have had her man in mind! So who’s the lucky guy? Not much has been said about her husband-to-be, other than that his name is Matt Robinson and he’s not in showbiz. Nat gushed about how much she adores him, “What should I say about him? I’m in love! He’s a businessman and really is a good balance for my career because he’s always a solid rock that I just feel very comfortable with, and I feel very loved.” Matt couldn’t have picked a better time to propose, after Natasha’s big shows last week. First, she performed at the NFL season opening with Usher and Keith Urban, then at Fashion Rocks on Sept 5 with a handful of divas, followed by a surprise show over the weekend at a nightclub in NYC. Now that all the performances are over, Natasha has plenty of people to flash her new bling to as she finishes up her week in the Big Apple, catching a few fashion week shows before her two month New Kids on the Block tour officially begins… and the wedding bells start ringing!

VA VA VOOM

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Sep 05 2008 in New York, NY. Stepping up with divas from Mariah Carey to Rihanna, British newcomer Natasha Bedingfield had the privilege of taking the stage at the Fashion Rocks gala in NYC on September 5. The fashion and music themed event benefits the Stand Up to Cancer foundation, which is especially important to Nat, whose grandmother passed away from the disease when she was a kid. The show culminated with Bedingfield, Beyonce and countless other songstresses performing their new charity single en masse, “Just Stand Up.” Nat described the experience, "This is the first time we're all together singing the song. It was really special. It was really like a sisterhood, like a bond. ... We're all used to being the stars — the only star in the room — and it was really nice I think that everyone could just come together and really support each other." Supporting each other for a great cause, I might add! Sporting a very daring look, Nat swept her blonde mane to the side in a funky spiked ‘do and wore a dramatic black dress with a front slit (check out Tricia Fix’s Marilyn Long Dress in Black or the Angelina Cocktail Dress in Black) with dazzling earrings (like Castaway’s Tahitian Earrings in Gold) with funky python print heels. What do you think about this look – can rocker Natasha pull it off?

PEACE, BABY

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Aug 13 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. When Natasha Bedingfield woke up on the morning of August 13, I have no idea what she was thinking wearing those god-awful combat boots on her flight out of LAX. How did those pass airport security? They must weigh about 10 lbs and you know that can’t be comfortable trekking around an airport as big as LAX, especially when you are toting your own luggage like Nat was. Yes, she’s made statements before about her style being a little daring at times, but there is no style involved here unless temporary insanity counts. From the waist up, Natasha’s ‘fit is well put together: loose fitting button down men’s tee that seems to be the latest craze (try Rails’ Shirt Dress in Blue and White), tight black leggings (check out Desert Blue’s Bullhorn Jean in Black, they’re jeans that fit like leggings so they are just as comfy without having to keep pulling them up all day), white Wayfarer-esque sunnies (try JeeVice’s Red Hot in Ice White) and a matching chunky white bangle (like Rachel Leigh’s Clearly Bangle in White), topped off with a red scarf at the neck and a casual brown carry-on. As she made her way through the airport, Nat flashed a peace sign to every pap she saw, from the check-in desk all the way to the boarding area. Maybe it’s because she’s getting ready to perform at the star-studded Peace Day Concert in New York on September 9, where she will appear with Grammy award winners Annie Lennox and Bryan Adams. Natasha is having such a good time performing in the US – her summer concert touring is wrapping up now – that she will continue touring here until Christmas, opening for the highly anticipated New Kids on the Block tour. For such a busy girl, I hope she’ll ditch the combat boots slowing her down and opt for something a little more fashion friendly!

NAUGHTY NATASHA

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Aug 03 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. British bombshell Natasha Bedingfield was smiling from ear to ear as she paused for the press at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles on August 3. I’m not sure I approve of the funky comb-over hairstyle, but once again that smile saves her from looking too overdone. Wearing a daring ensemble, Nat tucked an electric blue cami into a voluminous black pleated skirt (if you love the blue hue, check out Karina Grimaldi’s Jasmine Silk Mini Dress in Royal Blue, and see Shumaq’s Satin Bell Skirt in Black if you like the bottom half of the look), anchored with a wide black belt (try Jack Rabbit Collection’s Patent Leather Breathless Belt in Black), accompanied by shiny metallic stilettos. I wasn’t too enthusiastic about the tutu look, but I do envy Natasha’s confidence, as she recently described her original style, "I just have a lot more fun with getting clothes. I can express my art through what I wear. I do wear things that are a little bit more outrageous and a bit more loud. That's because I can." What do you think, does she pull it off? After presenting an award, Natasha asked an embarrassed – and flattered! – Rainn Wilson of The Office if she could give him a kiss on the cheek, telling the audience, “He’s almost as hot as LL Cool J.” Hmm, do any of you readers agree that Dwight is drop-dead sexy, or is it just Natasha’s imagination?

I WANNA HAVE HER BABIES

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Jun 25 2008 in New York, NY. The elusive Natasha Bedingfield took a moment to blow some kisses for the cameras during a promotional gig in NYC on June 25, taking a break from her US concert tour. The irresistible British pop sensation is traveling from coast to coast on a cushy tour bus this summer, performing her mega-hits “Unwritten” and “Pocketful of Sunshine” while keeping up her bright eyed, girl-next-door image. It’s no act - Bedingfield is the epitome of wholesome goodness: former Christian pop singer, writes her own songs, involved in VH1’s Save the Music foundation, promotes her mom’s charity Global Angels, and even creating her own group on carbonrally.com to unite fans to reduce carbon emissions – the list goes on and on. I have to say, for someone who is living out of a bus for three months (wait, is that carbon friendly? Hmm…), Natasha looks very cute here, wearing an eye-catching graphic print top (like Parameter’s Leaf Print Chiffon Blouse in Black/White), black skinnies (try Hudson’s Stella Skinny Poplin in Black), and some shiny bangles (check out Rachel Leigh’s Panel Bangle with Metal Squares in Jet and the Scripted Bangle in Silver). Not sure the brown croc heels work with the print, but with that smile, Natasha could make anything look good. The songstress is making the best of life on the road, spending her first 4th of July in the states while on tour. Natasha said, “Considering it's a day that celebrates the US' independence from Britain, it was funny to be part of the festivities as someone who is British. I like the fact that it is about freedom, which I think is something worth having a day devoted to because there are so many people in the world who do not have freedom of choice or speech and other basic human rights.” How conscientious! Nat also just released a new song, “I Wanna Have Your Babies,” which has a catchy title if nothing else. The opening lyrics, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas/but what if it don’t?” make you wonder if sweet and soulful Nat might be trying to tell us something! Natasha also scored the opening slot for the highly anticipated New Kids on the Block tour beginning this fall. Teeny-boppers (well, former ones, anyway) will have something new to get excited about when this blonde beauty takes the stage!

A Big Debut

Natasha Bedingfield seen on Jan 22 2008 in New York, NY. Natasha Bedingfield was seen in New York City on Tuesday, January 22, as the "Unwritten" singer came to MTV's TRL Studios on 1515 Broadway looking at her best from head to toe. Bedingfield began her look with a pair of knee high black leather shoes (check out Matiko Footwear's Maria Boot in Black) on top of a pair of black leggings (just like Laura Dahl's Longfellows Leggings in Noir). On top, Bedingfield hopped on the black and white stripe trend with a striped long tee (just like Signorelli'sButterfly Tee in Pearl) underneath a very stylish white leather trench. Natasha accessorized with a diamond charm necklace around her neck. Natasha made sure that she got the right people to dress her for this extremely important day. Her album dropped the day of her appearance, and with her recent single "Love Like This" with Sean Kingston blowing up the charts, she should have a lot to look forward to. After a strong first album debut with the smash single, and "The Hills" theme song "Unwritten," Bedingfield was recently interviewed by the Associated Press in regards to her new album, "I was really excited to come back to my second album after having gone all around the world with my first. It was really exciting to get back into the studio again and be writing. Really, it reminded me about what I got into it for in the first place and that was the writing side. I started off in the studio and to be writing again and to release my album in Europe and then I went on the Justin Timberlake tour and now I am releasing it in the States. I feel really excited. I don't feel nervous. Of course there is that side; you want people to like it of course. I want people to like what I have done but I feel very excited by it." With all of the hype and previous success of Natasha Bedingfield, it will be interesting to see if her new album will make her the new US star we've been waiting for. What do you think; does Natasha have what it takes to take over the US charts?
