Enjoying a romantic pre-Valentine's Day outing, Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson walk hand-in-hand in Brentwood after grabbing lunch at R+D Kitchen on February 13. The lovey dovey couple put their best foot forward in coordinated plaid looks, with Jess starting out layering her oversized plaid button-down over a sheer white tank (try Joes Jean's Relaxed Button Down Shirt in Ombre Charcoal with Splendid's Very Light Vee Tee in White) with rolled denim shorts (check out Work Custom Jeans' Beatnik Short in Medium Riviera). As usual Jessica wore a pair of towering strappy wedge heels (similar to Loeffler Randall's Mabel Strappy Platform in Papaya), but I can't help but notice how short she still looks in comparison to her man. Either he's really tall or she's deceptively short! Jessica's man strolled next to her in a similar button-down plaid shirt (try John Varvatos Star USA's Slim Gunmetal Plaid in Gunmetal for the man in your life) and a pair of black pants (like Joes Jeans' Brixton Trouser in Eclipse) with brown loafers. What do you think of this plaid pair, do their checkered choices suit them? I think Eric looks fine, but Jess is having a hard time pulling off the shirt – it's just not really her style, IMO. Maybe a longer inseam on her shorts would have helped, proportion-wise! In other Simpson news, it's reported the Jessica Simpson Collection is on track to gross over $1 billion this year, which puts Jess in the company of Michael Kors, among other established designers. Jess chatted with NY Magazine: “I never thought I’d be some fashion mogul.” Her business manager continued with an explanation of the concept behind the brand: "A girl could go to the shopping mall with her mother and she’d have a great new outfit and still have some money left for lunch at McDonald’s. She can look like Jessica Simpson, smell like Jessica Simpson, and she can afford it.” So… Jessica Simpson smells like McDonalds? I'm a little confused here!
