Kate Hudson

Almost everyone who has spent time with Kate Hudson -including directors, family members, co-stars and interviewers - is quick to comment on her ability to light up a room. Through some combination of a winning smile, solid work ethic, and good old-fashioned talent, the young actress has gone from indie beginner to Vanity Fair cover girl in just three years. What's more, she's done it all without capitalizing on the success of legendary mom, Goldie Hawn. By all accounts, Hudson was a born performer - as a child she danced and sang at every opportunity. Her family hoped that she would attend New York University after graduating from high school, but she opted to get her feet wet in the professional acting world first. She made her big-screen debut as an ambitious young starlet stranded in a tiny California town in Desert Blue (1998). Her next two films, while critically panned, made it into wider release: 200 Cigarettes (1999) (in which she played an earnest but accident-prone ditz) and Gossip (2000/I) (which cast her as a rich, virginal college student). Perhaps Hudson's biggest break was landing the role of rock groupie (or "Band Aide") Penny Lane in Almost Famous (2000). The part was originally intended for Sarah Polley; when Polley backed out to pursue another project, director Cameron Crowe considered scrapping the film altogether. Hudson, who had been cast in a smaller role (as William's stewardess sister), begged for a chance to read for Penny. Crowe was impressed, Hudson got the part, and the show went on. As much as Tinseltown gossipmongers would like to put them at odds, mother and daughter agree that Hawn is one of Hudson's biggest supporters. Kate has never been particularly close to her birth father, musician Bill Hudson; she considers her true "Pa" to be Hawn's longtime partner, Kurt Russell, who has lived with the family since she was three. Her brother, Oliver Hudson, is an actor and aspiring writer-director.

Looking like her usual casual self, Kate Hudson made her way through the Los Angeles Airport on August 19, but the only thing missing from her ensemble was her gleaming smile. Why so glum, Kate? Dressed in a simple beige tank, sophisticated grey skinny jeans (like Denim of Virtue’s Patience 5 Pocket Tapered Jean in Faded Grey) and envious ivory boots, Kate knows how to travel in style! The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star recently opened up to W Magazine for their new September issue, discussing everything from her relationship with her ex hubby to her fearlessness when it comes to risk-taking: “I have this personality—and there’s a downside to it too—but I have this thing where it’s like, okay, I’ve chosen to bungee jump off this ledge. I have to do it. And if the cord snaps, well, I might as well enjoy the ride down.” That’s a positive outlook you don’t usually find in Hollywood! I wonder if she had that philosophy in mind when she landed herself in her current legal predicament. Just this June, Kate followed the entrepreneurial celeb craze and launched a line of eco-friendly hair care products with her stylist, David Babaii. Now she’s being sued by one of the labs that she and David consulted for the line, slammed with 17 offences ranging from leaking trade secrets and fraud to breach of contract and confidence. The company claims they had an oral agreement to produce the line for Kate, and after they gave her the ingredient list she broke it off with them and found another company to produce the goods for less dough. Unethical, maybe, but last time I checked, oral contracts don’t hold up in court. What do you think – is the company trying to exploit her?

Kate Hudson seen on Jul 10 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. A healthy, hydrated looking Kate Hudson was out on the golf course with Lance Armstrong in Los Angeles on July 10. The smitten pair have been inseparable lately, living an appropriately active lifestyle that includes tennis camp, golf lessons, and swimming at Lake Tahoe. So that’s how she keeps those legs so toned! Kate looked adorable as always in a casual smocked white mini dress (like Woo’s Piper Cami Dress in White) played up with gold turtle and elephant necklaces (Amy DiGregorio’s Avalon Road Necklace in Gold has a similar ornate carved elephant charm) and flashy gold band rings (check out Erica Anenberg’s unique Blind Faith Braile Ring in Gold). Lance and Kate also enrolled all four of their kiddies in LA’s Palisades week long tennis camp, blending families already? Kate’s ex-husband Chris Robinson even came to watch Ryder play and chatted it up with Lance on the sidelines – a major step for the quickly advancing relationship! Do I hear wedding bells? In addition to her enthusiasm for summer sports (and all things Lance), last week Kate landed a role in the film version of the Broadway hit Nine, where she will shine alongside the Oscar-worthy cast including Nicole Kidman, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard, and Penelope Cruz. Her producer said of her role, "It's wonderful having Kate join this extraordinary cast! Her revelatory skills as a singer and a dancer lead to the creation of the role of Stephanie, a fashion reporter from Vogue working in Italy.” While musicals are always tricky to transition to the big screen, I have a feeling with Kate lighting up the screen as a dancing, singing reporter, it’ll be difficult for Nine not to sweep the box office!

It’s official, Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong split suddenly and supposedly amicably this past weekend, after hosting the three day Livestrong Summit in Columbus, Ohio. Before the split, Kate showed no signs of unhappiness, seen here as her usual sunny self on her way to the airport with Lance on July 9. Always the casual cutie, Kate wore a simple olive green tank (try Signorelli’s Love Tree Rhinestone Tank in Pear for a similar casual look) with dark bootcut jeans (like Hudson’s Signature Bootcut Jean in Tahoe), accessorized with a couple of gold necklaces (check out Kimberly Faith’s Sign Triple Charm Necklace in Gold) while toting a brown leather carryall (try the unique shape of Antoinette Lee’s Besa Stitch Hobo in Tan) and shading her peepers with big brown sunnies (see JeeVice’s Edgy in Oyster Brown). Despite her history of quick flings, I can’t wrap my mind around this one. How do you go from spending every waking minute together, frolicking in the sun, enrolling your kids in the same tennis camp and even introducing your (famous) parents and ex husband, then end it overnight just like that? Something doesn’t sound right here. A close source said, “There was no drama or ugliness – They just decided to end things. There is no hatred, just sadness.” Call me crazy, but I’ve never heard of a breakup going that smoothly. Something intense much have happened to flip the switch that fast! Let the rumors begin… reportedly Kate is recovering from the breakup in none-other than the arms of one of her exes, former hockey pro Eric Lindros. A friend ratted her out, "Kate and Eric have been holed up at her parent's [Goldie & Kurt's] house Muskoka, Canada. She went there immediately after she and Lance ended things." The same cabin Lance and Kate shacked up in last month after Lance’s charity Livestrong event took place up there? Wow, Kate, I would have expected more from you! Let’s hope the rumors aren’t true…

Kate Hudson was spotted grabbing lunch at The Ivy at the Shore with new beau Lance Armstrong and mom Goldie Hawn (who I have to say is like one of my all time fave actresses ever) in Santa Monica on July 1, although both Lance and Kate have declined comment on their hot new romance. For her lunchtime rendezvous, Hudson chose a flowy long dress (like Prarie New York's Long Halter Dress in Jade) with an orange bag (check out Posse New York's Hilary Hobo in Salmon), buckle sandals, black shades (similar to Nour's Madaar Sunglasses in Oro Bianco) and a cool silver swirl bracelet (very similar to Michele Michel Jewelry's Swirl Bracelet in Silver). Very beachy-chic! A source at the restaurant said, "They looked like they were having a great time and enjoying each other’s company. Goldie was all smiles. Lance was sitting next to her and they were chatting while Kate was laughing. They were all just really happy." Presh. While Kate hasn't opened up yet on Lance, he spoke to the ladies of "The View," and simply said, "“Number one, I know you have to ask that question. And it’s my right not to answer it. Number two, I think when you’re happy about something or proud about something, I think it’s natural in human nature to talk about it. But I’m not going to answer it. Next question." Nicely said!
