Chicago native Karen Zambos is a new Los Angeles-based designer with a cutting-edge vision. Although she has been working in retail since her teens, she fell into the design world when she found herself in debt after her move to Los Angeles. Karen began with hand-dying vintage slips and selling them at Tracey Ross, the Los Angeles boutique she has managed for the past 8 years. In a very short time, her career as a fashion designer has taken off.
Karen's eclectic clothing line includes a wide variety of designs. Previously, her line had simply consisted of reconstructed vintage pieces, much like the designs of Imitation of Christ. Whether it be customized Hanes t-shirts or a lace and taffeta mini skirt, her trademark ability had been transforming flea market finds into hip designs with a pair of scissors and five minutes on her sewing machine. However, in the past year, Karen has bumped up her collection with a new style and edge. While she still throws in a rare vintage piece and has a penchant for antique fabrics, the collection has spread to knit halter dresses, cozy wraps, button down tube tops, mens-style easy to wear trousers. The hard-to-find fabrics transcend the boundary between feminine sexuality and masculine attitude as they continue to attract more and more people such as Gwen Stefani. Mariska Hargitay, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Lindsay Lohan, Eve Jeffers, Jessica and Ashley Simpson, as well as Nicole Richie.
Karen's designs portray her revolutionary vision and style. She creates clothing based on her motto: comfort is key. Her designs come from the simple belief that mostly all women, just like her, look and feel confident and sexy when their clothes are comfortable.
