About the Designer

LA-born Nathan Menashe always had a passion for designing clothing. It may have been due to his parents owning the first store of massive chain French Connection, or due to his extensive apprenticeship with Joe Dahan of Joe’s Jeans.

For whatever reason, his experience in fashion has led him to pursue a dream of making denim his way, hence the name of the brand – Freedom of Choice.

Since 1977, when Nathan was born in Los Angeles, he has been involved in clothing. His first exposure was at his parents’ store, where he would hang out after school and on weekends. He watched his mom dress celebrity clients like Pricilla Presley, Frankie Valle, Tina Turner, Diana Ross and the cast of Dynasty, among others.

At 10 years old he ventured back to his roots, spending time in Israel, and after serving his dues to the Israeli army, he returned to LA to pursue his destiny. At this time, he began working under Dahan and Azteca Production leader Paul Guez, the mastermind behind Yanuk and Antik Denim. At this time it was clear to Nathan that this was his calling. Within two years, he became Dahan’s personal graphic artist, sharing responsibility for the design of the denim. He later asked to be moved from the art department to fabric development, where he became wet processing engineer.

After working with Joe for five years and learning what it takes to launch a high quality denim line, Nathan was confident he could make his own dreams come true.

Now, with help from long-time friend and fashion leader Uri Harkham, Nathan is launching his first collection. Coined Freedom of Choice, Nathan thinks the brand is about self-worth, perseverance and passion for music, fashion and, in a word, life.
