Doing what she does best – taking a look and running with it – Jessica Simpson was in Chicago this weekend, promoting the launch of her new “Fancy” fragrance at Macy’s on Dec 6. Arriving in a red plaid double breasted coat (try Suzabelle’s Ballard Coat in Red) with a festive Santa hat and black boots that look like she might have stolen them from Mrs. Claus, Jess posed with her pooch Daisy and with the “Fancy” bottle before slipping into something a little more comfortable. Revealing black leggings (check out Tag Jeans’ super comfy Stretch Skinny Pant in Black) with a glitzy black and gold tunic mini with gaudy printed chains (for a more refined look, try Gold Hawk’s Fold Tunic in Black or Chamois and leave the chains on your purse, like Linea Pelle’s LC Clutch in Black), Jess accessorized with a gold watch and a set of gold bangles (try CC Skye’s coordinating Pair of Chain Bangles in Gold). While she’s been plumping up her Texas mane lately in support of her career, Jess toned it down with a few loose waves and just a hint of volume – and a half inch of roots! For being her BFF, Ken Paves lets his girl out in public with unacceptable faux pas like this all too often. It wasn’t her best look when she first tried it, but maybe it’s time for Jess to switch to a lower maintenance hair color, perhaps a nice mocha shade for the winter? It would save face in the future with all the promotions and events Jess has been making her rounds at, from the “Fancy” launch to her clothing line to her performances at Country Fairs around the nation. Though she’s wrapped up her tour for now, beginning in January the country music scene will be warming up a little for Jess. Move over, Taylor Swift: Jess is the new opening act for Rascal Flatts on the 3 month 2009 extension of their “Bob That Head Tour.” That’s when you know your country career is doing well: you’re replacing an 18 year old whose CD easily eclipsed yours and climbed to the #1 spot overnight. Maybe it’s time to switch back to pop?
