We’ve seen quite a bit of Katie Holmes since she relocated to the Big Apple for her stage debut in All My Sons, and on September 4 the Dawson’s Creek star made yet another fashion statement as she made her way to rehearsal in the morning. Poor Kat has been the subject of pretty intense scrutiny lately, getting flack for everything from her boyish haircut to her oversized jeans and poorly assembled ‘fits. Even Tim Gunn chimed in with his two cents, commenting, “I have to say, Katie Holmes has become so much more sophisticated in so many ways, but I think she’s in a dip right now. I can’t explain it. She ascended from this tomboyish waif look to an incredible sexy sophisticate. We realize how much style she’s capable of. I don’t get it.” Katie must have taken note, because her style has been improving over the past few weeks, adding killer ankle boots, sexy skinny jeans, and colorful prints to her normally drab wardrobe. Maybe being surrounded by fashionistas in NYC has rubbed off on her? The morning of Sept 4 was no exception as Mrs. Tom Cruise headed to work in a feminine black sheer top (try Qi’s Chiffon Cardigan in Black), bright blue pencil leg jeans (like Denim of Virtue’s Patience 5 Pocket Straight Leg in Irish Blue), and low heeled pumps with old fashioned buckles – sort of pilgrimish, but still better than her endless collection of ugly ballet flats. Kat carried an elegant black tote (similar to Carla Mancini’s Front Pocket Double Handle Bag in Black), her Blackberry and a venti coffee from Starbucks to get her through the day, shielding her peepers from the sun with a pair of square black sunnies (try JeeVice’s Sassy in Black/G15). Besides counting down the days to her Broadway debut, Katie has something new to be happy about this week – a visit from her first love, Joshua Jackson! Though they broke up about 10 years ago, Josh is reportedly concerned about Katie’s wellbeing because she looks so thin and unhappy these days. He stopped by the set of All My Sons with a bouquet of flowers for his former flame, wishing her the best before letting her get back to work. Sweet gesture, but you know that’s not going to fly with Tom!
