Reinventing pretty in pink, Cameron Diaz put her best foot forward at the 2009 Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on January 11. Let me start by saying I have some very mixed feelings about this couture creation from Chanel’s 2008/09 Fall/Winter Haute Couture collection. First and foremost, I am a pink lover and I can’t help but adore the bold bubblegum shade Cam took a chance with. If you feel the need for pink, try CoutureCandy’s elegant options like Ingwa Melero’s Elena Mini Dress in Pink Combo or Betsey Johnson’s Tiered Dress in Blush. I love Cameron’s dress from the left side: the sweeping one shoulder neckline, intricately pleated bodice and loose train are every Barbie girl’s dream. The dress is absolutely stunning from this angle, but from the right side, I want to rip the oversized bow off the hem faster than Cinderella’s stepsisters! To me, this ostentatious detail takes this frock from haute couture to hideous in an instant. I love the feminine buttons lining the side, but the combination of the frumpy bow, buttons and pleated bodice is messy. The way the dress is gathered to the side is also problematic for me – it creates awkward bagginess on the front, and makes it look like it’d be hard to walk in. I’m not wowed by Cam’s accessory choices either, especially the silver shoes. A different style would have been more flattering, but I think a matte shade would’ve been better altogether – perhaps nude or even black to balance the bright pink? I’m also surprised by how much I dislike the silver Chanel clutch – the dangling crystal beads and flashy metallic shade take too much attention away from such a (potentially) fabulous frock. If it was with a different dress, I’d love it – it’s just so hard not to love Chanel! Cam’s custom-made diamond dome ring by Camelia adds a nice modern touch (get a similar look at a bargain with Michele Michel’s Adjustable Hammered Dome Ring in Silver), but it’s not the style of jewelry I would envision with such a feminine dress. Same goes for the lackluster locks and dark roots – a simple ponytail would’ve been more elegant! Not a fan of the makeup either: the hot pink lipstick is too similar to the dress to be flattering, and if she’d played up her eyes more I think the overall look would’ve been one of sophistication. To be honest, I’m quite surprised that Cameron chose this ‘fit – such a contrast to her typically stellar appearances on the red carpet! I’m sure you readers are as opinionated as I am – do you think this look works for her?

I thought the color of the dress suits her personality actually. I didn't hate it as much as a lot of people. Her roots are a little odd...guest on Jan 19 2009 @ 06:24 PM

i hated this when i first was it but the more i see it i see its a beautifully crafted dress and its just the person wearing it that clouds my judgement it would look amazing on a skinnier less gaudy looking person like mary kate or someone that gave it depth and juxtapositionguest on Jan 20 2009 @ 07:18 AM
