CHANGING HER MIND?

Taking London's unseasonable summer heat in stride on a walk with her beau, Emma Watson looked like your average girl next door while taking a stroll on August 19 with boyfriend Jay Barrymore. The couple picked up cold drinks while browsing a few shops, where Emma ended up with the book she's holding Inspired by Music. While Emma has been sculpting a pleasant sartorial image for herself in Burberry and Karl Lagerfeld's circles, this breezy summer 'fit is quite the opposite of sophistication. The tank jumper dress is cute (opt for a more flattering fit like Splendid's Pocket Tank Dress in Heather or Rails' breezy Pamela Dress in White) but I wish she was wearing better undergarments, or standing up straighter – one way or the other something unflattering is going on! Emma stayed true to her preppy style with buckled loafers and a plain skinny bracelet on her left wrist (try Citrine by the Stones' Wire Bangle in Silver), leaving her hair more or less natural while enjoying the summer sunshine. Definitely not one of her better days but I think Emma looks cute and carefree – any naysayers? While Emma makes the move from London to the U.S. at the end of this month to start college at Brown, there are also rumors she may be trying out her entrepreneurial skills soon. If you recall she vehemently denied any desire to design in her WWD feature in July: “I’m really not interested in doing it for my own ego. I’m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!’” Rumors still persist she is collaborating with fair-trade line People Tree on a juniors offshoot line with proceeds benefiting UNICEF. While it is a little too soon for her to change her mind about designing, she did say she'd consider doing something for charity! She also expressed interest in fair-trade clothing to British Elle in June: “I’m really interested in fair-trade fashion and organic cotton, but it’s hard because, to be honest, the stuff’s kind of ugly or really plain." I'd love to see what kind of not-so-ugly or plain creations Emma could come up with, but her rep has officially put the brakes on any further rumors: "Emma supports many fair-trade organizations but has no formal relationship with any company." Playing the field – I like it!
