Chanel Iman Robinson (born November 30, 1989), better known as Chanel Iman, is an American fashion model. Robinson was born in Atlanta, Georgia to China Robinson of African American (father) and Korean heritage and Lamar University assistant basketball coach George "Tic" Price. She grew up in Culver City, California and attended Fairfax High School in Los Angeles; currently she is home schooled. Iman took part and won third place in Ford Model's Supermodel of the World 2006, and ended up signing with the agency. Iman walked down the runway for the first time in the Fall/Winter 2006 season for high-end brands like Custo Barcelona and DKNY; since then she has modelled for many top designers, including Dolce & Gabbana, Issey Miyake, Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Dsquared, Hermès, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, Anna Sui, Diane von Fürstenberg, Vera Wang, Jean Paul Gaultier and Stella McCartney. In her short career, she has appeared in advertising campaigns for Bottega Veneta, GAP, Victoria's Secret Pink, and United Colors of Benetton. She appeared with models Du Juan and Coco Rocha in the Spring 2007 issue of TIME Style&Design. In the May 2007 issue of US Vogue she was featured on the cover with fellow models Doutzen Kroes, Caroline Trentini, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Agyness Deyn, Coco Rocha, Jessica Stam, Hilary Rhoda, and Lily Donaldson as the new crop of supermodels. Chanel also appeared on the cover of Teen Vogue alongside fellow American teenage models Ali Michael and Karlie Kloss in 2008. In the Teen Vogue February 2009 issue, Chanel announced her wishes to design, "I want to do different things in my life, not just modeling. I would love to design for a big fashion house, like Pharrell did for Louis Vuitton. Stop giving all the opportunities to celebrities! I'm in the fashion industry, I have some great ideas, and I'd like to share them."
Chanel Iman has been seen wearing
Chanel Iman seen on Apr 28 2009 in New York, NY. Model Chanel Iman was seen working the carpet of the Matthew Williamson for H&M Event in NYC last night, April 28, and was definitely flaunting those signature gams of hers. In a sparkly, figure-hugging micro mini dress (for a few similar options from CoutureCandy, try LaROK's Serengeti Tunic in Black Zebra, Woo's Marlein Dress in Retro Feathers, or Gold Hawk's Sleeveless Stained Glass Dress in Madagascar), Iman piled on the jewelry with oversized hoop earrings (I love the triple-tone of Lana Jewelry's Ocean Drive Earrings in Tri Gold), a boho-chic woven headband, and tons and tons of silver bangles and bracelets (emulate her look with Alex and Ani's Set of 7 Signature Expandable Wire Bangles in Silver). For the finishing touches, Chanel toted along a charcoal and black leather shoulder bag with gold hardware and slipped into a pair of slate grey heels that I have to say I'm not too fond of (I've never ever been a fan of a square toe). Overall, though, I think CI is rocking this look - what about you? At the event, the up-and-coming model gave an interviewer a piece of her mind when they asked her what she was wearing. Chanel paused for a moment, then responded, "It’s not H&M!" When she was reassured by the reporter that many of the other attendees weren't wearing the new line either, she said, "No, it’s Topshop! Ahhh... I would have worn H&M if I knew I was coming here earlier! But I just sort of got out of the car. I had on pants earlier, but I just took them off." Pants? Who needs pants! No wonder that "dress" is dangerously on the short side!
