BETTING ON BALMAIN

Always looking fierce, Beyonce Knowles arrived at the 2009 BET Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on June 28 in head to toe sequins. Selecting a – surprise! – Balmain Spring 2009 sequined mini splattered with purple, emerald and turquoise sparkles. Balmain has been her choice designer lately, so the angled shoulders and super short hem are a little predictable, but I don't think it's a terrible choice for the BET Awards. To make the cropped sleeve mini work for everyday, try casual picks like PGD Style's Candice V Neck Mini Dress in Black or add some color with Karen Zambos' Chain Print Banded Dress in Chain Print or the Swirl Button Front Dress in Swirl. Sparing no color in her accessories, B paired huge emerald hoops (add a little splash with Rachel Leigh's Sweet Tooth Hoops in Avocado) with dazzling purple heels complete with rainbow beaded fringe. It's a lot of look but no one can rock it like Beyonce! Do any of you disagree? Beyonce arrived at the show leading the nominations count with rapper T.I., both earning 5 noms each. B walked away with the honors for Best Female R&B Artist and Video of the Year for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)." Congrats B! Beyonce was scheduled to perform a medley of her Sasha Fierce hits this year, but instead took part in the tribute to Michael Jackson theme with a rendition of "Ave Maria" and "Angel" while wearing a flowing white gown. While searching for a video of the performance I was a little surprised to find she's performed this medley at several of her concerts in similar angelic attire, kind of taking away from the tribute aspect. Reading reviews of the show, a lot of fans were really disappointed with the MJ tribute performances – do you think B should've chosen one of his songs?
