Going about her business, Katie Holmes leaves her New York City apartment on her way to Barneys on March 16. The day before, Katie and her design partner Jeanne Yang hosted a preview party for their Holmes & Yang Fall 2011 collection at the iconic upscale New York retailer, showing off an array of jewel toned dresses, sharp tailored coats and clean trouser silhouettes. For their second season together it really does seem as if H&Y is making more of a statement than what Katie borrowed from her grandmother's closet! Katie headed back to the store the following day in a polished casual business look, wearing a sage green tie top (like Gold Hawk's Tie Shirt in Dusty Grey) topped with a long black cardi (stay cozy in Chaudry's Sweater Jacket in Black) with a pair of what looks like leather trousers (keep it classy with Nanette Lepore's Dress Pant in Black) and a pair of black pumps (try Loeffler Randall's Wood Heel Pump in Black). Katie added some shine with a pair of gold leaf cluster earrings (check out Robyn Rhodes' Iris Earring in Gold), wearing her freshly blown out hair straight with her peepers covered in a pair of oversized round sunglasses. What do you think of Katie's business lady attire, does it work for her? I'm loving the seventies accent of the tie neck top, which is making a big splash in fall collections. At the Barneys event Katie shared she and Jeanne took some inspiration from the disco decade as well: “This season was inspired by Charlie’s Angels. There are a lot of fun colors that pop in the collection." Jeanne continued with a note on their high quality, US made pieces: “All of the stitching is handmade. All of our clothes are made in Manhattan except the suits are made in Brooklyn." It sounds like these ladies really know what they're doing!
