Looking less than stellar on the morning her new country album hits the shelves, Jessica Simpson made an appearance on Good Morning America! in New York on Sept 9, treating the crowd to a sampling of her new country material. While she usually looks polished no matter what she wears, Jess could have used a few more minutes in the stylist’s chair this morning. Where are you, Ken Paves? Jess needs you and a bottle of hairspray, asap! Wearing a boldly patterned pink dress with an unflattering balloon shape (try LaROK’s Tiva Dress in Multi with a better shape and toned down pattern) and a matronly cinched black cardigan (Zoa’s Open Drape Cardigan in Black is much better), Jess couldn’t resist adding Southwestern style to her ‘fit with a gigantic turquoise ring and chunky silver hoop earrings (combine both influences with the classy Small Bubble Hoop Earrings in Turquoise by Rebecca Norman). The Dukes of Hazzard star strutted around the stage in black peep-toe slingbacks while belting out new and old hits, reminding us all just how well she can warble. My favorite part about her performance? In typical Jessica Simpson style, half-way through singing her staple hit “With You” – which kind of loses its meaning now that she is no longer “with him” – Jess stopped the band and shouted, “Hold on! I know this is live TV, but I can’t hear anything. Do it again!” Clearly, live TV is not for her or her little sis (can’t forget the SNL snafu!) but at least the crowd didn’t boo her this time. Jess recently raved to Extra about her affinity for her new music genre, "Country was just something that's in my bones. It's in my blood. It's in my voice. It's in my heart and I just wanted to pack my stuff up and go to Nashville and write with some of my favorite songwriters." Now as much as I want to make fun of her for being a country bumpkin, iTunes announced today that her new album has been the #1 download for the past two days, surpassing all other genres. Not too shabby for a Texas sweetheart!
