About the Designer
Mother and daughter design team, Ana & Valeria, founded AANETA in the late 90s in Uruguay. With the Markowicz family home in Uruguay, Valeria spent her childhood watching her mother design and manufacture many different successful lines throughout South America. After 25 years of designing, Ana Markowicz watched her daughter head off to one of the most prestigious Architecture Academies in America (Southern California Institute of Architecture), and like her mother, Valeria became a well trained original artist destined for success as an architect.
Valeria Markowicz moved to Los Angeles in the mid 90s to begin her career as an architect. Her mother and her would spend their time together co-designing handbags and began gifting them to close friends and family to wear. The handbags, all made in Uruguay, boasted the finest leathers and most innovative designs.
Inspired by the constant attention to their designs were receiving worldwide, Ana & Valeria decided to officially launch AANETA, named after a nickname Valeria called her mother as a young girl. By 2001, Aaneta bags were gaining popularity all across South America thanks to the dedicated design team and most talented seamstresses. In 2002, Valeria introduced them to the U.S. Market, who immediately fell in love with the design and exquisite construction. In 2003, Valeria and Ana premiered their first official AANETA collection which immediately sold out all across the United States.
Ana Markowicz and Valeria Markowicz-Strauss make a wonderful design tem in offering a subtle bridge between tradition and innovation and consistently incorporating the sensual elements of Latin American culture paired with global style.
