New Denim Designs Break Through Old Boundaries

Fashion pushers are calling it the hottest way to make your booty bounce this summer: Dress it up in white denim.

But denim of any color isn't the easiest article to carry off. And white can be downright dangerous. Just the other day, a colleague sadly declared that every pair of jeans she tried made her derrière look like a pair of volleyballs.

Ingrid Gallego, co-owner of Aura Boutique in Coral Gables, Fla., broke the bad news about white denim:

"Sometimes women choose a white denim that's too thin and allows you to see every flaw in your butt - which we all have," she said. "You need to choose a heavy fabric."

Or you need a cut that gives where you need it most, said Toby Tucker Peters, fashion market editor of InStyle magazine. Women know that loathsome spot as the widest area of the rear, the place where hips are at their broadest.

"Our huge survey on our Web site and in the office found that when you're buying jeans, the biggest fit problem is that women have small waists and a bigger backside," Peters said. "Women are supposed to be curvy. This makes sense. But a lot of jeans are designed for the really young set who don't yet have hips."...
