The Good Old Denim: Latest Jeans News
Although Blue Jeans originated in the distant 1873 and don't seem to have changed much since then, fashion designers always contrive to create new styles and add new elements to satisfy the customers' preferences and conform to the latest fashion trends. Both old school labels and new brands bring about something new this season.
575 Denim, launched in January by denim guru, former Sacred Blue designer Frank Mechaly, offers vintage inspired jean wear, a fusion of classic and cutting edge. Appreciated by such celebrities as Cameron Diaz, Lenny Kravitz and Jennifer Lopez, these jeans, manufactured using Italian and Japanese fabrics, come in several new styles this fall, including Coronado Cargo with a tiny flap pocket on the outside of the distressed hip pocket, and the Red Salvage, a classic slouchy pants with five pockets.
For those who are tired of jeans that fit well in the rear end but are too loose in the waist, or vice versa, LA-based label Notify came up with an idea of "sculpt sizing". Their new Ornatus jeans feature an additional dimension based on the distance from the base of the wearer's spine through the curve of her bottom, which is then broken down into three options: A, B or C and allows for different sizes of hips, bottoms and thighs.
An independent New York City designer, founder of fashion label Built by Wendy, Wendy Mullin, teamed up with the legendary American jeans manufacturer, Wrangler, to work on their Wrangler 47 collection. "I'm just helping them update [the brand] with new fits and fabrics," Mullin told FWD. "I basically went through their archives and combined their aesthetic with mine. It's kind of a no-brainer. They're a really cool brand." The fall collection is marked by clean cuts and dark washes and includes Woodgrain denim tunic fro girls and Woodgrain denim Western shirt for males. Read more.....
